1972 was the year so any head marked D2TE will have induction hardened seats. Unfortunately this type of hardening is not as good as hard seats and Ford never used hard seats in an FE engine. Hawkrod

Yes, depending on year the exhaust manifolds can vary. Most are the same but for example, 67's have a heat riser valve on the drivers side. The passenger side is pretty much the same with different numbers on them from 67-72 on trucks but there are three different drivers side ones. Hawkrod

Well.....I just dropped the heads off at the machine shop to be reworked and have the Edelbrock springs installed. Before i dropped them off i looked on them and found the following numbers.....D2TE AA.......any additional info would be appreciated on these numbers.

you will need new hardened seat put in the head for sure if they do any work to the valve seats or put in new valves.

The D2 heads are the induction hardened seats. That's a good street head, small ports, basically the same head as a C8AE-H (another common 390/360 truck head) but with the induction hardened seats.

I'd look closely on how many miles you plan to put on the truck, if the seats aren't sunk now, and you don't plan on putting a million miles on it, the hard seat install may be money wasted.

Talk to the machinist and see what he says, sometimes rebuilding an old head gets pretty expensive, and there are many levels of "the right way to do it"

The machinist did tell me that the valve seating area was in extremely good shape and that the heads were in pretty good condition despite their grimy appearance. These are going into a 69 F-350 that will see limited use as far as any extreme work or daily driving. Not really expecting miracles here.....just an economical reliable occassional use vehicle.
