header and aux gas tank

Post by mouse »

I have to get a set of header for my 71 f250 sc cs 2wd with aux gas tank because my passenger manifold is cracked, too many joints by there, and if I pull the manifolds off there not going back on. I am wondering about clearance with my gas tank and witch headers will clear, I am not going to spend over 200 for a set and I am not going to remove that tank because I am going to remove the one in the cab

i think the header will be ok but you will have to reroute the exhaust pipe to the other side if i remember what i read on here before.

The header should be fine, just make sure the pipes run down the passenger side of the truck...

Or quickly outside the frame. I choose a different method if all goes well next month. I am making a custom tank that is Longer wider but shallower so my exhaust passes under the drivers side aux tank. I did the math and the design CAD work and it fits and leaves more room. What prompted me to start this design is the fact that my original aux tank is bent from hitting the ground. Not dented so much on the bottom but bent in a bow. So I do drive this off road but mainly into small construction sites and over rocks and junk that is dumped in the sites.

25 gallons is my original so my redesigned tank was aimed for the same capacity, 6'l x 1.25'w x .5h is 28 gallons
6' x 1' x .5 is 22 gallons. So that gets me farther from the driveshaft.

That is not very smart.

Mouse, just get some Sanderson shorties for it. You'll have to pay more than $200 though. If you want quality headers, you'd better be willing to fork over some money. Cheap headers don't last.

You could just replace the broken manifolds and be done with it.

Why do you say that? Be over 3 inches of clearance. Pipes pass under tanks in cars more often than I can count.

dragon is right, I don't know how many cars I have seen run the exhaust that way and had to remove the exhaust to pulled the tank to change the fuel pump.

To boot my tank design allows me to put another tank on the passenger side.

I did not see a big issue with clearance but several state that it will not fit with the aux tank

but from what I see there is plenty of ways to get the pipe to the other side or put a set of stack exhaust pipes
