70 F350 vs 71 F350 steering parts

Post by steveh »

Guys

Does anybody out there know the difference between the steering parts (Tie rods) used in F 350 between the 1970 and 71 models. Looks like there was a change between those years and guess what… you can get the 70 parts but the 71 to 79 are readily available! Just my luck!

I am hoping the 71 parts have a bigger shaft/taper and these can be used with some work.

Thanks
Steve

if i remember right the tie rod end where it goes into the pitman arm is bigger after the change. that is where the problem lies. i dont know but you might maybe be able to use f250 parts maybe. or if its just the end of the tie rod thats loose you can alos repair it at a machine shop. you will have to grind the cap off of the bottom of the tie rod ball and put a new piece of brass in there to tighten up the socket. then weld the cap back on the tie rod end.
