I have a 71 with a rebuilt 390 and a C6. Sometimes when I start it cold, the trans takes a good 30 seconds to go into gear when i put it in drive.
Topping off the fluid usually helps but this weekend it did not. Would a filter change help this problem? What causes it?

Re: C6 slow to go in drive
Is it only going into drive or does it do it in reverse as well?

It's got "morning sickness". The lip seals on the fwd. clutch are hard. Put some acetone, maybee two tablespoons in
the trans. Or----pull it and rebuild it. Don't service it or you'll kill it. The sludge is all that is keeping working.
Your gonna have to fix it sooner or later. Save up funds. Jake

Seems like it always shifts right into reverse.
