Disc conversion

Post by Fattz7duce »

just want to make sure that i have this write from what i have been reading. i can do the swap on my 72 with 73-79 f250 parts as long as i keep the kingpins, spindles, and I beams from the same yr truck? now are all 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton the same bolt pattern 5 on 5.5? i want to do the swap so i'm going to hit up the junk yard on WED.... i know to talk the steering linkage but should i also take the proportioning valve?

thanks 8)

1/2 ton f 100 and f150 are 5 on 5 1/2. 3/4 f250 is 8 lug. yes you will want the porpotioning vavle and the brake booster and master cylinder for a disc drum setup. i would get the master from the parts store though.

The F100 front end is not interchangeable with F250/350. F100= 5 lug, F250/350 = 8 lug. The F250/350 swap does not require kingpin, spindle, I beam swap. The caliper brackets use the same bolt holes as the drum backing plates.

You need beams, radius arms, spindles, steering links, proportioning valve, etc from a 73-79 f100 or f150 to keep the correct lug patterns.

from what i have read i think they will work as long as you get the drop beams for the yr truck you rob the disc parts off of.

yes 3/4 ton is a f250 and it has 8 lugs. 1/2 ton is a f100 or f150 depending on the year of the truck and those are 5 on 5 1/2

I read this post for the fist time tonight -- killing some time....

Anyhow, I am not sure the correct final answer was given or if he understood it. He has an F100 1972 2x4. He does not have an F250, but I think his original post make some folks think that he did have an F250.

He does NOT need to replace the Ibeams and radius arms. Some folks think that approach is the easiest, but if he can get the spindles, steering links (consider getting new instead), prop valve, and booster bracket (if power brakes are desired), that will be the minimally necessary list. So if you find the correct truck in the junk yard and the owner tries to rape you over the ibeams and radius arms, then tell him you just want the spindles and prop valve and see if his prv.

I have manual disk brakes and they are very sufficient, but its a matter of taste.

F100-f150 1973 -1979 is what you need.

Didn't mean factory parts. Just need parts compatible with each other.
