i found a d60 on cl out of a 73 f250 dent with 4.10 gears and a posi. the guy only wants 50 bucks.
how will this effect my truck with a stock 360 and c6, with 31 inche tires? i like the fact that it would be stronger and it has a posi already.

The frames on the dent side trucks (73-79) are wider so the spring perches will have to be relocated.
The gear ratio will make your engine rev higher than it does now. I have 2 auto trucks with a rear axle ratio of 3.73:1 and they're ok but remember auto's rev higher than manuals due to the slippage. You'll have more low end pulling power but worst mileage then you're getting now.
Besides, if you put this Dana 60 in an F100, you'll now have two different lug patterns (8 in rear and 5 in front). I'd just find a 9 inch instead.

Re: dana 60
im not too worried about the milage and perche swaps, the lug thing could be a problem but i like the high gear and posi since this truck will eventually just get used for towing.
if i hold out for a better 9" i think ill look for one with disk brakes that is about the right size.... or watch the 4x4 sites for built up 9"s for sale...
