16-spline dana 60 parts woes

perhaps this should have gone into "parts wanted".

i tore into the dana 60 on my '71 f250, primarily to change ratio from 4.1 to 3.55. planned to change all seals and bearings along the way. the diff is open which is fine with me.

one of the carrier bearings spun and so the carrier was chewed up. bare carriers are reasonable and available so i got one. now i discover during further teardown that the spherical washer behind one of the two smaller spider gears is shot. really shot. other side looks perfect.

it seems that 16 spline stuff is nla. the bare carrier is probably still available only because it is not 16-spline-specific. i bet i could buy a "carrier internals kit" for a 30-spline and just use the washers? or as has been posted elsewhere i could also use the spider gears and have custom (shortened) 30-spline axles made up. or i could go to the junkyard and buy a heavy greasy axle i dont need except for one washer.

anybody have a diff apart that can mail me a silly washer? maybe i will get in my car and start pestering the local truck repair shops. ideas?

Yeah I would think you could get a axle shop find 1 new or used if you took them a sample. I haven't this problem brought up on the board.

just to let people know i harvested a thrust washer from an old open 30-spline dana 60. same washer as the 16-spline.
