351 C

Post by mickster »

I picked up a '72 truck w/a 351c I knew it was a transplant but didnt expect the perches to be cut in half then welded to the cross member.

Are there a perch, motor mount combo that fits or will I need to start from scratch.

Will post pics tomorrow Mick

The Cleveland should use the same towers as the 400.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 351C uses the small block perches.

You are correct, a small block set of perchs and rubber mounts will bolt right to a Cleveland and set in as if it was built that way. As also noted, 351M and 400 perches are also the same thing but be aware that the 351M and 400 rubber mounts are different. Hawkrod

ok is the 400 a small block like the C word? If so the 302 perches from the '74 should fit. Am I on the right track

You are right that the perches from a 74 302 will work but a 400 is not a small block. The 351C is very closely related to a smallblock and so smallblock parts fit (even the pulleys and brackets from that 74 302 are the same for the most part!). A 400 is not really related to a smallblock or a 351C except for the cylinder heads although the pulleys and brackets are also the same. The 400 motor mounts are very different due to the fact that the block is a different design. Hawkrod

Well, i have a 351 Cleveland in my 72 4x4, i used the perches out of a 78 with a 400. I also used headers for the same pickup, but had to do a little fab on them to make them work. 2wds should have wider frame rails though, so im really not sure about swapping those.

Great help guys, I'll pull the motor and clean up the cross member then install the 302 perches to do this right. Its a fairly clean truck w factory air, new tires, mirrors, auto trans, and PS it needs PB. Then see whats next. I'll post pics.

I hope every one east of us gets through thie storm without a mishap!

This needs more than I thought, belts, hoses, carb, wiring harness, no surprize. Valve cover's complete dizzy set up, maybe intake too. Shame the motor transplant was done by IGOR, otherwize this is a good truck. Is there a direct swap for a compressor (brackets aside).

I'll take camera today. Mick

You got your work cut out for you for sure, but it's worth it. Nice truck BTW!

Not sure what you're asking about the compressor though, you want to change from the type it has?

Maybe I missed something, but the burnt engine pic is not of a 351C.

Windsor block, not sure of the displacement.

So, did I miss something :? ?
