Any suggestions???

Post by slamd71 »

I finally decided on a motor. Im Putting a 400M with just over 400 HP with a C6 tranny into my 71 F100 2wd that was originally a 300 straight 6. any suggestions or precautions I should take into consideration to make this swap go a little easier. I was told to leave in the stock rear end... Is this true?

You could build a killer 300 6 with the money you'd spend on a 400M. JMHO.

Personally I like the 400, it's an underrated engine IMO. But with gas prices the way they are I'd sick with the 300. :2cents:

You'll need engine perches, I forget which ones, but Keith has an excellent write up on perches here.

To be engine correct you'd need to change the radiator support for a V8. Probably going to have to do a custom driveline. Your rear end should be fine unless you want to tweak the gearing to your liking.

We don't say it enough, but kudos to Keith for all the time he's put in on this site.

You might want to replace the front coil springs since you are going from a 6 to an 8. They are different because the 8 cyl. is heavier.
