found a used tranny at pick n pull but.

i have a 69 ranger f250. 2x4. as you know i fried my last tyranny. my question is. its out of a 69 also. truck im getting it out of has 189,000, i am gonna hope its rebuilt but hey they only want 85 bucks for it at pick n pull. moneys tight others id get a new one., what should i look for. does it matter ifs its 2x4 or 4x4. truck and also its a automatic like mine..... thanks guys

i was at the PnP yesterday too. didnt see you though


just make sure the tailhousing is similiar and stuff. what engine is the tranny hooked to? does it have a similiar driveshaft to yours?

haha ,,,, yeah its a 390. some mexican dudes took the motor to send to mexico. and pretty much same truck. crap i didnt check if 4x4 ... pretty much already pulled, i just gotta lift it. both are out of a 69....

You pulled a trans and didn't notice if it was a 4x4?

I would think the extra shift lever would be a clue. :hmm:

if it was a automatic in a 69 f250 4x4 it wouldn't have been original for the truck and would have had a transfercase shifter bolted to the tailshaft housing. Lot of work to swap something in that may not work, but you gotta do what you gotta do...
Tailshaft should be really your only concern on whether it's bolt on u-joint or if it's got a slip yoke..

yeah i decided to be smart and just do it right. and get a rebuilt tranny or have mine rebuilt. cause im gonna get a boat and just knowing its gonna last and not leave me stranded.., id hate to pay someone to install a used one and not work

If it had a transfercase on it you wouldn't have been able to pick it up, it took me and my brother to load a C6-np205 into my truck. If it was a F-250 4x4 It would've had a divorced t-case, meaning, that it would've worked in a 2wd :2cents:
