Alternator Bracket 302

Post by WickedSix »

I pulled my 240 out and put in a 302 in my '67. I bought a chrome alternator bracket for a 289/302, but I cannot figure out how it mounts. I was going to see if anyone had a picture where I could see how everything goes.

Thanks!

You may have a problem. There are two totally different sets of brackets and pulleys for a 302. There are 69 and older and 70 and newer. What year was the bracket for and what year is the engine you have? If the fit isn't obvious you likely have teh wrong combo. The easiest way to tell what engine you have is to look at the harmonic balancer. If it has 4 bolts holding the pulley on it is 70 and newer and 3 bolts is 69 and older although there are some 70-72 vans and trucks that violate this rule and have the 3 bolt stuff. Hawkrod

It's a '79 engine, it has the 4 bolts. The alternator bracket I have looks like this one http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

I just can't seem to get it mounted right.

Yeah, you will never get those mounted. They changed the water pump in 70 and those brackets fit the 65-69 not the 70 and newer. Hawkrod
