New Exhaust System?

Post by green68250 »

How much would you expect to pay for a new exhaust system from the manifolds back to exit out in front of the rear wheels? A local exhaust shop quoted me $425 with flow pro mufflers. If I wanted flowmaster it was another $100 and they guy told me not to go with cherry bombs because they don't last. What have you guys payed?

Honestly, to me that does not sound all that bad. I worked the front counter at an exhaust shop a few years ago and even back then, depending on the tips and mufflers, it could be between $400 and $550.

I agree that the price is high, but it is the norm.

That is ridiculous. It's the going rate but still...

I was quoted $150 just for a tailpipe! That's just a single 2.5" from the muffler back. I decided to go to Baxters and bought four 45 degree elbows, two straight pieces and a turn down and made my own for less than $60 including the clamps and hangers.

My friend bought an entire stock after market exhaust system from Napa in 1995 for a 1970 Dodge Polara for $100. Then in 2002, he was gonna do the same thing for his Jeep and was shocked at the price of just those bolt on pieces that were now $270 and did the same thing I did and made his own.

Our trucks are fairly easy to make exhaust for. If you have the flanges from the donuts, just cut the pipes off and start from there. They have 45 bends, 90 bends and straights. You can even use a turn down if the 45 is too much of an angle.
Side oiler FE, see if you can catch me!!!

my dad only paid 68 dollers for a new single exhaust on his bonnivele, they just chopped off the old exhaust hangers and welded all new hangers and pipes, this is also the home of the two hundred dollar duels lol

I paid around $200 for true duels from manifolds out the back with the large stainless tips but I brought my own Hooker Aero-chambers.

I too was quoted $400 for a system from the manifolds back. seems high to me too, but the last time I did this was 10 years ago on a 68 cougar and it was $200. I guess the price of steel and labor has doubled in the last ten years!

Doesn't seem too bad.

I had a friend do my exhaust. He made a new Y-pipe out of 2 1/4" pipe into a 3". He used a Magnaflow muffler and a 3" mandrel bent tail pipe.

He told me to do it for someone off the street they would have paid $450-$500 for the same exhaust.

I am more than pleased with the sound, looks, and performance.
