1/2ton to 3/4ton switch
My question is this. Im thinking of putting my 69 Ranger body onto a 72 camper special frame. I'm running 3.25 rear end and got about 14mpg on trip home. I did not 3.25 on 3/4 ton trucks , so would I put my mph even lower than I'm getting now? Also, could I find a 3.25 or3.00 rearend for 3/4 ton. I know it would not pull as go but need higher mpg more. Thanks for your time and input. John

Someone will be a long shortly to correct me if I'm wrong, but the highest ratio you can easily get with a Dana 60 (3/4ton rearend) is a 3.54:1 R&P. Most likely, your mpg will suffer a bit.

Ok Thanks what i'm thinking too. Guess I could just build it as a heavy 1/2 ton. Maybe go with heavyer springs from 3/4 but use a 1/2 rearend and front spindles. Not sure i'll tackle this, as I,ve also been offered some 1/2 tons with good paperwork.

If you're worried about mpg's just put some larger tires on the rear. Get a dana 60 with 3.54 gears and put 35's on it. It would be a dog but it might help out the mpg's. I'd take a full floater any day!:2cents:

H-D,
The 3.54 is the highest one I see also. Unless you went with an overdrive...
I'd stick with th 1/2" ton for mileage.

Thanks for all the responses. The guy backed out on the 3/4 I was going to use for a chassie. But I think i'll stay 1/2ton anyway. John

Keep in mind that if you try to install F250 springs on an F100, you're going to find that the bolt on each end of the leaf pack is a larger diameter on the F250, meaning you'll have to either use the F250 frame brackets or slightly enlarge the holes in the existing F100 brackets.

re: 1/2ton to 3/4ton switch
I was thinking of using the 3/4 ton frame as it's heavier and I need to change frame as I have no title for mine. Then was thinking i'd just put 1/2 ton rear axle and use most of springs from 3/4 and on front I'd try 3/4 coils with 1/2 spindles. But a friend may have found me a 69 that was sold to be crushed. If he can trace title, I think i'll be able to trade a dent and a chevy to make up the guys weight . Right now just alot of thinking out loud. Thanks again for all the imput and i'll let everyone know how this turns out. John

re: 1/2ton to 3/4ton switch
Was also thinking of adding 3/4 ton springs on 1/2 ton rear. Drilling the holes out wouldnt be a problem. Wonder how much higher the rear end of truck would be. Sure would be nice to be able to tow my heavy pontoon boat to the lake with my bump.
