Twisted axle
I have a 67 longbed 2wd and the left rear axel is twisted it snapped the spline off in the carrier and i cannot get the carrier out of the rearend. Does anyone have a easy way to get these 9 inch carriers out and yes I have all the nuts off the bolts and dropped the driveshaft. I have both the axels out the only part that is left is the spline which I think is still inside the carrier. I have talked to alot of people and they have said that the carrier should come out quite easily but for me it not. What are my options?

re: Twisted axle
How much of the axle is left inside? If you've got at least 6"-8", you can get a broomstick, drill a hole crosswise through the end of it and insert a loop of twine through the hole. Then you can insert the broomstick into the housing tube and loop the rope around the end of the axle and pull it out.

re: Twisted axle
Same broom stick deal except use some industrial strength duck tape on the end. The broom stick end needs to me flat. Shove it in there, smack the other end with a mallet to get the tape good and stuck on and gently pull the stick out. Don't need a ton of tape, just enough to cover the end of the stick.

re: Twisted axle
The stub of the broken axle shouldn't going to keep the center section from coming out.
Have you got the center section separated from the housing? Sounds like that's what's stuck.
Start with a putty knife and drive it between the carrier housing and the axle housing itself. Try to do that on 4 sides then step up to something thicker like a screw driver or a flat bar.
