getting quotes on c6 rebuild w/o engine running well

Post by Bonnie_72_F100 »

So,
I'm about to get my c6 rebuilt by a local shop (after I call around and get some quotes). The question I have is the engine only runs well for about 40 seconds before it revs real high and shuts off. No, I don't know why either...

Can the mechanic fix the transmission w/o fixing the engine? Or is it like "to test the transmission fix, we need to fix the engine enough to get it to run".... ... ?

Hope that makes sense!!

Thanks,
Cooke

it sounds like the engine is running out of gas when it does that. i have no opinooin on the main subject. but you can aslo have them rebuild the trans out of the truck and you put it back in and test it. but they may not warrenty the work if you install it. so i would get the engine running first.

I agree with fordman. Is that the reason you wanna get the tranny remand?

:yt: fix the engine before you pull the tranny.

If the engine is not right to start with, the tranny rebuild won't make any difference.

Heep, Jeff His Tranny is locked up  see this thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... c&&start=0

But like Fordman said, you could pull it and have it rebuilt and put it back in but to take it to a shop you should have it running first...

And it does sound like it is running out of gas.
Try leaving the gas cap off and see if it still does it...
Then try the fuel filter in the fuel pump...
Then try running a hose to an extrenal gas can to the fuel pump and see what happens, after that it's probably the fuel pump.

Okay,
I'll get that engine running first. I've added new gas but I'll give it a shot w/o the gas cap on & then try the fuel pump...

Thanks again guys.
