Driveline length questions

Post by mjhaltom »

I removed a 240 and a 3.03 and I am installing a 390 and a T18. I know I can reuse the rear section of the driveshat, but will there be a difference in length in the front section?

Also, does the transmission crossmember need to stay in the same place? I already moved the engine perchs to the back holes.

Just rying to eliminate as much trial and error as possible. Thanks

I thought the I6/fe perches mounted in the same spot. If you only moved it back an inch or less you shouldnt have to cut the front drive shaft section down.

normally when you change from 6 cyl to fe the perches are moved back to the back set of holes. as far as driveshaft length. i dont know. i have never even seen a t 18. what i would do is measure the three speed from the bell housing to the rear seal . and then measure the t18 the same. figure the difference and then figure where you are from there. there is a little give on the carrier bearing mounting on the frame where you can redrill the mounting holes if you have to to make your old shaft fit.the easiest way to find out length would be for someone with a similar setup is to measure what there driveshft measures. i dont have that so i cant help im sorry.
