lokar kickdown C-6

Post by Banjo »

anybody got any pix of successful Lokar kickdown install on edelbrock carb and C-6 trans? I'm reading the Summit catalog to figure out what to order, but seems another post also mentions you cannot use stock accelerator (which I'm doing), so I'm trying to calculate costs and with what's recommended in Summit, and if prior comment true, I could see how this could eat up some money fast.
I cannot use the metal kickdown for my C-6, as it has been rigged to work with a flat homemade bracket on side of a floor shift C-6 inserted into a column shift truck with a small floorpan. So, there isn't much room (which is why I was interested in some type of cable) for a metal rod type hook up.

how do I mount a taller transmission hump to a floorpan not originally equipped with one, do I have to weld in a flange for it to bolt to or does it just bolt down with sheet metal screws or? I'm guessing salvaged humps are what have to be searched (not reproduced).
And, are all small block pattern C-6 the same, so if one were to take one out of a floor shift car to mount in column shift truck, all they'd have to do is make sure they got correct linkage from a column shift truck to bolt onto the rods on driver side coming out? If anyone could post a pix of driver side of C-6 where the rods hook so I could see what factory hookup looks like that'd be great but I know that is asking alot.

You simply have to cut the tunnel out in the same manner that the factory did. Here's some photos of mine:

Here's a shot of the factory cutout, taken when I was sandblasting my cab:

In this picture, you can see the previous owner butchered the tunnel for a floor shifter. I've marked the area to be cut out.

...and here's a view after cutting it out:

Got the removable cover mounted:

The factory mounted the cover J-nuts and screws. I just used bolts and nuts. Make sure you seal it well to prevent water from getting inside the cab.

A floor-shift tranny has a different bellcrank on the side of the transmission. Attaching your steering column to that would reverse your shift pattern. (PARK would be the in the L1 position and vice-versa.) However, you can swap the piece from a column-shifted transmission.
