Transmission Leak.
Hey,
I just bought my '72 short bed and the PO told me that the C4 had just been rebuilt. I looked at it and it was all clean and new looking so I believed him. It shifted fine and had no problems that I noticed. Now it has a leak out of the seal near the output shaft and it leaks about a half quart a week or so. Is there anything that would cause this and is there anything I can do short of rebuilding it again?
Thanks for the help,
Corbin

re: Transmission Leak.
So there is nothing else to it? The seal just pops out? I assume all of the tranny fluid will come out with the seal? Can I get the seal at NAPA or do I have to order it from someone? I've never done this so i applogize if these questions are dumb.
Thanks for all of the help,

no big deal the hard part is getting something to pry the old seal out. the best way would be to take a screwdriver or similar item and tap it around the outside of the seal to pry it away from the trans housing. then keep working it with the screwdriver until its out. then tap all around the new one when putting it back in to make sure it goes in evenly. you will lose some fluid. i think maybe not. i havent done one in a long time i cant remember.

re: Transmission Leak.
Ok, sounds like its a fairly easy job. Now i have something to do this weekend. I can get that at NAPA, right? Or is there someplace special I need to get it from.
Thanks again,

re: Transmission Leak.
Yep, Check for wobble of the yoke befor you dissasemble it to see if the bushing is gone. The seal won't last at all if the bushing is allowing it to pound it out.

Great, thanks for the advice. I will check to make sure of the wobble before taking it apart. Thanks for the help again!
