coil spring height

Post by fordman »

the 70 i took apart didn't have a flat spacer under the coil seat on the pass side. i thought this might actually have something to do with the coil spring height on the pass side being shorter? i could not see how it could tip the seat. keith could you tell me more about what you know about this. i am unsure about the tipping issue. but i can see another reason for the flat spacer.other than coil spring height. i thought it was just a way to space out the seat so that it wouldn't rock front to back. i cant see how the spacer could keep the seat from tipping side to side.

That spacer doesn't keep it from tipping side-to-side...it holds up the front lip of the spring seat. Without it, the front of the spring seat will drop down. It has nothing to do with the installed spring height. Not having one won't drop the spring, it'll just cause the spring seat to sit cocked forward.

Both sides need to have one of these. If one is missing, I'd say that a previous owner forgot to install it when servicing the front end, and it should be replaced.
