HELP I'm stuck

I can't get the beast out of 4wd. I can't get the hubs unlocked and I can't shift the xfer back into 2wd.

The case is gear driven, they can get mean if they get bound up. Get on some level ground and let it free role backwards and move the selector. You might have to let it free roll forward and move the selector.

Mine give me crap also, espeacially when I try to unlock on pavement.

I tried the lettin it roll back and forth trick before I posted.

I had to pop the cluth and bark the tires a bit but she slipped into 2wd. what a pain. Would changing the fluid help?

No, I would check the fullness of the fluid. That sounds a bit drastic when you have to bark the tires. Another trick I have used is to turn the tire back and forth while rolling. I had to do that a few times after I put lockers in. If the selectors on the hubs are tough then that means the center is bound up.

Does this happen every time? Try it again and see if it continues.

You can also shift these on the fly with the clutch in. Note: from 2H to 4H and back. You can not shift on the fly to 4L or out of 4L.

This was the first time its happened.

The tires only barked because I popped the clutch on accident. I read your idea and just threw some slippers on to go try it and my foot slipped.


BTW I have a dana spicer xfer (according to the tag) and it only has 2wd and 4wd no 4hi or 4low.

The F100's have Dana 21 t-cases. How far are you rolling back. Sometimes I've had to roll back at least two truck lengths to get the hubs to unlock.

Sometimes you need to take a few added steps to get these old rigs to cooperate. You have a single speed T-case like F.O.R.D. mentioned.

Mine got all bound up a couple of months ago but I took the easy way out . . . Got out the floor jack and lifted the front wheels off the ground.
