Ya'll that are good with the 9" (I'ma sterling axle man myself, this older stuff is a bit out of my knowledge) help me out please.

Was wonderin' what the difference is between the axle under the '71...

Chek over on the Slick site. It is under the Tech Articals.

My guess would be 28 vs 31 splines, Width, Spring pertches and shock mount width.

Right off the bat, the '71 is a small bearing and the '84 is a big bearing.

The earlier one is weaker, the later one stronger... as Mr. Average said, the later one is big bearing.

The pumpkins are interchangeable, but the spline count may not be...

If you aren't racing or jumping they will both do fine...
