Will a F350 dana 60 bolt in place of a f250 Dana 60?

I have a dana 60 from a F350. Will it physically bolt in place of the dana 60 that is under my F250?

I know they are both eight lug, but will I run into any other problems?

if its actually a dana 60, it should.
I bought an F-350 for the dually rear axle, and it turned out it was a dana 70 instead. those have a larger axle tube so you have to use what came with the axle to mount it. (I found this out after I had scrapped the parts truck, and a few needed parts! )

What did the axle come out of? Spring pad widths changed alot during the run of dana 60's/70's. A 60 will have "60" cast right into the center housing. a 70 will have "70" for a dually axle or "70B" for a single wheel axle. Ford also used the dana 61 under 250's/350's in the 70's and 80's. It has tubes and hubs like a 70, 60 sized gears and shafts and doesn't have anything cast into the housing.

Thanks guys. The dana 60 is out of a 70 F350 crewcab. I'm wanting to put it under my 72 F250 camper special.

According to Ford 60s never came under F350s Also according to my shop experience at dealers. THe 60 does not have strong enough axles for the weight capacity.

i never heard of an f350 with a d60 either.
installing a d70 from a 69 f350 on my 72 f250 4x4 frame was bolt in. i used the d70 springs too.

A crew F-350 would definitely have a dana 70. All the '79 F-350 4x4's I've seen have had Dana 60's in the rear. I've heard ford put 70's under them as well.

Dana 70 or not, it will fit fine under your 250 as long as you get the U-bolts and spring plates from the donor truck.

4*4s yes they have a really low GVW for a 350. Std F350s dually or not are rated over 8400 GVW the breaking point for the Dana 60 to 70 crossover point.

i agree with kid, iv'e never heard of a 60 under neath a f-350. always the 70 and 70B. but there are those occasions that someone may have swapped a 60 under it, why, you may never know.

The rear axle ford used is in relation to the GVW, just as KID said. The '79 F-350 4x4 was an F-250 with a higher GVW sticker on the door jam. Ford did some strange stuff in the 80's too. Before they switched to the sterling axles they put 60's and 61's in all kinds of stuff. I've met alot of guys with an early 80's ford truck boasting about how it has a dana 70 in the rear. Nope, it's a dana 61. Looks just like a 70 until you pull the cover off, but it doesn't say 70 on it anywhere. All dana 70's have a big "70" or "70B" cast right into the center chunk above the pinion.
