I connect mine to the "I" terminal on the starter solenoid.

Isn't there a terminal on the alternator ?
So if the engine stalls the choke won't keep opening.?

...
IS the Holley 2300 a direct bolt on?

I have a Weiand intake 4 barrel with a reducer to accept a 2 barrel. What I find strange is the carb was dirty, but the inside of the intake and runners were absolutely spotless. Not even a light coat of clean oil.

...
2300 should be a bolt on.

Honestly though, if you have a 4 BBL intake, just put a 4 barrel on it. Was it like this when you bought it? If so I would venture a guess that the seller had a nice carb on it and had a better use for it than letting it go with the truck

Holley 0-1850C has manual choke, vac secondaries and does 0-81570.

I do agree electric choke is nice. Holley 0-80570

That's tied to the positive side of the ignition coil and after the load resistor wire when the starter isn't running. Only getting a full 12v when the starter is turning. The wire T's off after the resistor section, one going to the coil, the other to the I side of the solenoid.

I had a 2150 on a 71 pre smog 390 that someone tried. Truck did not run well. Can't give reason why but replaced it with a reman 2100 along with new heat tubes for the choke and it made all the difference.

Thanks for the options. Yes it had the 2 barrel on it when I got it. I opened the carb and rebuilt it yesterday. If its dont work I am gonna decide on a new Holley or reman Autolite

The carb bowl was dirty. Had a brown loose film in it. Its clean not with new parts.

Still puzzled why the outside of the carb was oily/dirty but the intake was spotless. Any reason?

As said above, most likely swapped to sell. Personally I'd run the 2100 versus a Holley. Much simpler carb with no tuning issues and it'll do what you need for a stockish 302. Look for a 1.21" 2100 from a 390 if you want a little more kick. Heck, I'd probably put a 2bbl intake back on too. Just simpler with less adaptor leak problems.

I rebuilt min yesterday. If it gives me issues I will hind a 2100 referb and go that route.

thnaks everyone. I will update once my intake is back from powder coat.
