Well like always I come to a topic a day late and a dollar short, topics probably beat to within a breath of dyin ... but anyway,
If I'd had a C-6 to beigin with I would've done the gear vendors thing. But I had a stock cruisamatic. So I researched (way back so long ago that Super Fords was a Magazine with articles on this) and I read that LenTech was building AOD's to handle 7-800 HP and had the drag strip wins and cred to back it up. And they had just come out with a bellhousing to put it behind a FE. So it was either shell out $$$ get a built C-6 and shell out more $$ for a Gear Vendors, possibly $4-5K total, or just the $3K for a Len Tech prepped AOD. I chose the AOD. Now they're several companies offering this for less money.
I have somewhere between 425-475 HP according to highly respected and experience engine buildier (John Bailey) who put my engine together, but it's never been dyno'd or tested on the strip. But I have unloaded on it many many many times. In fact my avatar picture shows the scars I can lay down and in that picture truck wa so fresh the labels were still on the tire treads.
I have driven it to TN round trip twice and not had any problems with tranny, other than problems caused by getting a stall TC that is in same range as my highway cruising speed (22-2400rpm). Which is an issue, if you are going to be serious about needing or using a stall converter an AOD isn't a good choice. The C-6 is the racers choice by far. I think I've read that AOD loses more power before it gets to rear wheels than a C6.
I'm going to be switching back to a 15-1600 rpm stall, since thats just below my highway cruising rpm. In 2005 I made most of RT to TN w/o OD and never had problems with engine or trans doing 3000 rpm all day, just got in an extra gas stop or two.

AOD is a band aid tranny. For 6000$ you kin band aid it for drag strip
use. Aint worth a **** behind a big motor on the street. Period dot.

C-6's are damn good trannies.

They do have some down points, such as a large parasitic load, but they are damn near indestructable otherwise.

If you need a heavy duty auto get a C-6 if you don't get either a C-4, and AOD or a FMX.

Simple as that

Awesome !

Thank you my Brother's for the 411.
Now I know about the facinating Catahoula.
They appear to be the Do-it-all Dog. How easy are they to train?

I wonder what kind of "Super Dog" we could breed from one of my Golden's!

very trainable and versatile-although they do require a lot of exercise-let 'em run & play jd i would imagine a cross w/golden would make a good dog!

jd - No we're Low-Desert but not to far from High-Desert.
Hemet is at the foot of the West side of Mt. San Jacinto.
Palm Springs is on the opposite (East) side.
It's Hot 110' in the summer and cold 30' in the winter.
