Next question,

The transmission is newly rebuilt and I put 4 quarts of trans fluid in. Once I fire the engine up for the first time, do I also add the rest of the tranny fluid during the break in?

took about 4 5second intervals before firing.

had to shut it down after 3 minutes. headers started melting wire loom.

I wouldn’t think 4 5 second intervals is a problem, fix the loom and go again...

Looking for a bolt on exhaust system. I have shorty headers. Anything out there worth it? I already have mufflers

thanks everyone

Something weird here on the timing

I installed a newer timing cover on my new build.  I also installed a newer style timing pointer from the newer 302 engines.  with that i used a new timing tape on the new balancer.  I found TDC and place the new timing tape exactly where the pointer is.  So i created a new TDC because of the new timing cover.  Well the weird part is when I checked the timing for the first time it was set exactly at 10 BTDC.  I was sure it was set at TDC.

what did i do wrong ?

another weird thing is that as the truck ran it started to smooth out.  is that normal?

Thats bound to spark a healthy debate...

Depending on ring material I’d give it at least a 1000 miles... Probably more...

Need advice.

So the truck starts and idles great. When i put in under load it struggles to run. Seems likes its flooding. at idle when i rev the engine it misses and falls.

where to start?

What makes you say it’s flooding?

Is the spark strong and have you set the total timing.

refresh out memory on the induction?

Duck,

just a guess on flooding.

I don't know if the spark is strong.
