continued (long post)......Everything is stock and no material was taken off the decks by the machine shop and I don't think the valley pan could be interfering somehow.
To be clear, these pics are from before I reinstalled, and it looks better now, but it was still a lot more gap to fill than I expected.
I guess I could use some reassurance.

To me that looks OK the surface for the valve cover meeting flush is what would concern me the most

Pulled my.intake and heads prob a month or so ago. 390.
Sitting below.my stocm 2barrel intake was something i never seen before.
Old man called it a turkey pan. Had a screw sitting in it. Lol.
I basically have a big pan and a smaller one sitting under mine. I hope they go back in under the edelbrock performer i wanna use.

No, it really didn't move much when torqued down.
I put a bead of sealer on the top side and it did squeeze some of it out, but it doesn't look like it compressed the gasket much at all.
I will post some pics soon. It was perfectly flush with the heads, but man what a gap it had to fill on the bottom.

LOL noooo I have done a couple of rebuilds mostly Ford's but a couple of Cheby's also. When I installed my intake, I used the cork gaskets front/rear, and I put sealer on top/bottom of each of the gaskets, and even more at the ends of the gaskets where everything meets in the corners. Everything snugged up fine when I torqued it all down. The engine might leak ... but it's not gonna leak there!
