Update: got the Pertronix unit installed and set. Same issue; she fored right up them died. Further arrempts to crank her failed (she would turn over but not fire). My Fluke multimeter is acting a fool so I can't check anything as far as voltage and Ohms are concerned. :cuss:

For less than what you spent on the Pertronix, you could have installed a Ford Duraspark II ignition system and be cruising right now :D

I'm going to try and bypass the resistor wire as Ren mentioned this weekend and see if she will come alive again. I think I'll go for a stiffer drink this go round.

If you use a Pertoronix unit, don't forget to bypass the pink resistive wire (this is only used during start-up, but the Pertronix needs the full 12V). Also, the ring needs to be at the same level as the sensor (don't just push the ring down on the shaft as far as it will go (yes, I learned that the hard way)). Some people use the rubber gasket from a garden hose as a spacer.

You know what Joseph, I did push the ting down as far as it would go. I'll fix that when I bypass the wire (had a brain fart and didn't do that yet). Do I need a different ignition coil or will the current standard one suffice?

My girl is back! i would like to thank all of you for your input and guidance through this. I still didn't get her to fire after bypassing the resistor wire but then i remembered what Joseph suggested about the Pertronix unit and a garden hose gasket spacer (fits perfectly). Got it buttoned up and boom. The old girl fired right up. After adjusting the timing and the carb, she is running stronger than ever. Thanks again everyone. :woohoo:
