Keith,

I checked my 72 doner truck for the tag your referencing on the bed brace and mine has none. Its production date is 02/72 though.
It does have the brake hose brackets on the frame that you pictured however.

That brake hose bracket looks familiar to my 72. Im sure it has it, its to dark right now to see. Did you check to see if the frame is different from the other years. On my 72 F-250 the ears on the frame where the coils springs fit into are different from all the older years. There are pictures in my old thread called Frame differences.

I'll look for the tag when I get home on thursday.

I've been wondering why you guys keep talking about changing the frame brackets when mine look just like the ones you are putting on.

"Stapled onto the front left-side bedside brace was an aluminum tag, which included the truck's VIN (matches the two on the frame), along with some other info. Has anyone seen one of these before? Do those of you with a '72 have a tag in the same location? Has anyone seen one on anything other than a '72? Just curious."

FWIW - My 72 F250 Camper Special, produced 11/71, had a similar tag attached with wire to the rear of the seat back, but not on the bed (bed is scrap metal at this point). The tag was painted Calypso Coral, matching the body, and clearly stated "TOOLBOX CAMPER" on it. I still have it somewhere. If I can locate it I'll download a photo.

Yes. My truck was sold new as a Camper Special and originally had a bed with the toolbox on the passenger side, as well as dual fuel tanks, so I believe the tag stamped TOOLBOX CAMPER served some purpose on the assembly line. The fact that it's Calyso Coral give me the impression it was near the body when the factory painted it. The back of the seat wasn't Calypso Coral, so some worker saw fit to wire it to the upper seat cushion. Maybe some tags were placed on the bed, some behind the seat. Until this post it was the only one I've seen. My old bed was too rusty to save and I was fortunate enough to find a replacement rust free '71 bed in Colorado with the same options.

Notice how the tag on the bed in the first post has "CUSTOM"? I bet that was the trim level of the donor truck. My truck is a Custom, but that isn't stamped into the tag.

Interesting! Thanks for the input. I wonder why it would have been painted with the body but then wired to the back of the seat. Maybe their stapler wasn't working that shift. :P

No tag on mine, no sign that it was ever there.

Wonder if it was only applied on an exception basis, ie "Two tone" Tool Box" and so forth.

I don't think so. The truck I found mine on was a single-color run-of-the-mill Custom...nothing fancy or extra at all.

Plant variation?

I don't know, there are no staple holes or anything in the braces on mine, I'll look closer over the weekend, but I am comfortable saying that mine never had one there.

My guess (and its only a guess) is it was a mid-year change, setting up for the "new" trucks in 73

I have seen those 'buck' tags attached to various places over the years but never really paid attention before I started really researching the details on these trucks. The only ones I know of for sure were the ones stapled to the cowl on the early 67's, up to about april 67. Then they disappeared from there and showed up wherever they felt like putting them. Found an unattached one in a 69 glove box once and then of course saw them on some 72's.
