Hey,Meandad,I don't know much about aod's but you're right up the Squaw Peak(or Piestawa Peak if that's what they're calling it these days)from me....

AODs use a 164 tooth flexplate. If you don't have an 81 and later 50oz in balance 302, or if you use a 351, you can just use a 164 tooth C4 flexplate for a 28oz in balance 302.

The '68 302 that's in my BII now came out of a BII that had an AOD behind it.

The mustang engine runs a mass air flow meter, is sequential (injects in firing order), and has an oxygen sensor for each bank. Most of the trucks are speed density, batch fire (fire four injectors at a time), and have one oxygen sensor. The Mustang setup is better at maintaining stoichiometric, thus has the capability of better fuel mileage on the same size engine. Don't forget fuel mileage standards are higher on cars than trucks. That's why the Mustang runs a more efficient EFI design than the trucks (also more expensive). Not to mention the mustang engine has more power and torque than the truck engine. Also my 1967 is lighter than a late model truck...
