Header Starter

I'm one of those lucky ones. In 7 years of running headders on my 390, I've never had a stater go bad, knock on wood.

I am using a starter from a '93 4x4 it is hight torque and low profile and I did not have to remove the header to put it on. Also I have not had any over heat problems wih this starter yet.

Is your engine an FE, and your truck a 4x4? If it is did you have to do any mods to the starter, or the transmission?

Mine is a 351w and it is a 2x4 but my headers are real tight and with that starter it fits right in their with out having to remove the headers. The only mod I had to do was add the wire to the starter and connect it to the side of the old relay for the ignition(start circuit). When I did that I was able to get rid of the old starter relay all together. If you are still running all original parts on yours you might want to leave the old starter relay in there because of the extra wires that are on there for the alternator set up.
