I'm a computer programmer. Beyond the 'computer' stuff, my forte is breaking things down.

So the next question is: Do I raise the rear or lower the front?
I'm a "fresh newbie". But I've already figured out that lowering one of "our trucks" with the twin I-beam suspension is a bit more involved that on other (lesser :) ) vehicles.

Now, let me ask - what is the 'purpose' of your truck? Radical custom? Occasional (cool implied) cruiser? Daily driver? Pickup (ie: workhorse)? Mixed parts of some or all of those?

If you're a "custom" or "cruiser" and maybe have the occasional 'light hauling'...AND you think the dough for the dropm I-beams is worth it...then drop the front.
Here's some "geek" for you to consider. (actually...it could be COBOL code)
IF (CUSTOM = 'Y' OR CRUISER = 'Y' OR DAILY-DRIVER = 'Y') AND HAULING NOT > 'LIGHT'
IF DROP-BEAMS = 'WORTH-IT"
PERFORM DROP-THE FRONT
ELSE
PERFORM RAISE-THE REAR
END-IF
ELSE
PERFORM RAISE-THE REAR.

Hopefully someone gets at least a chuckle out of my analysis. :D

PS: Nice truck. what size wheels and tires are on it? i need ideas!
It will be a show truck. "HOPEFULY" this year.
The reasen I like the stance is because it looks as if it is going real fast just sitting there..
That's just me..
I liked your analysis, you must have graduated high school..LOL...
As for wheels they are 15's... 8's in the front and 10's in the back that size works for me the 295-50-15's are pretty wide and look like small slicks.

I like your truck. I agree with fordman, the body looks mint just the way it is.

As far as the stance goes, its bulldoggin' just a little bit. I would bring the front down to match the rear. It will look good!!

Drop the front a tiny bit and big tires in back is my :2cents: . It looks great as is though.

if it's too low...you're too old :lol: {/quote}

It's a wild coincidence, but here's your trucks long lost TWIN brother!!

The Mustang II IFS (set up correctly) handles like a slot car, rides excellent & DOES NOT reduce the load carrying capacity of a half ton truck!
It costs a bit, but not many are as enjoyable to drive....& the LOOKS don't SUCK either.

Your ride looks great now, but my personal opinion is that THIS LOOK is pretty tough to beat!

The one below is mine...(So you know that I'm following my own advice).

So in case you missed it, I recommend Slammin' the Heck out of it!

It's just MY PERSONAL (excellent) opinion....But this is the "Land Of The Free",

I love that you have stance, the only thing is I've spent a little over $7,000 and my wife is jelous...So I have to work with the rear drop for now, it won't be extra to flip the front shakles. Maybe in a couple of years I'll drop the front.
I keep forgetting my camara for updates on my project. For sure next week...
I've seen your trucks progress, and I'm jelous. Congratulations.

I CERTAINLY understand financial limitations & keeping your PRIORITIES in line! ...My project is on a temporary "financial hiatus" for similar reasons.
My truck was (originally) supposed to be DRIVABLE project, & I was happily heading down the same road you are....But somewhere along the line,
I lost ALL self-control & kinda "threw in all my chips" (so to speak) :woohoo: .

You've got a cool project truck, that you'll be able to DRIVE & enjoy while mine is still "financially HIGH CENTERED" in the garage!!

Image

So if you're gonna do that whole "sensible thing"....I'd recommend checking out T.D.'s '68. :drive:
(He's posted earlier in this forum) His build went down the same road, with great results!

Thanks for the kind words & ENJOY THE RIDE....I'd love to see more pics. :D

P.S. I agree....I kinda like the WIDE side trim (on your year truck). But isn't that used ONLY in conjunction with the "thin" rocker mouldings?....I like those also,
but it's a LOTTA trim to buy & I also wonder if the mounting holes are the same? They're easily welded up & RE-drilled, but just thought I'd bring it up.

By the way, super sharp truck!!!
My guy in Ft worth will bend em for a 'C' note or less. I've know him for years and he is the only one I've ever know that could align any Ford and make it drive right.I used to manage the shop he still works in, people come from all over to get there trucks done.

sport71 - you have a great lookin truck. As said before. Keep the narrow trim (or give it to me :D ) and lower the front a bit.

mike68merc - That's one heck of a rollin chassis you got there, looks real nice.

AK F100 - Thank you very much. :drive: She'll be on the road....someday!

sport71 - How bad is the damage to your truck? & How far along are you on repairs?

Image

Not to :bdh: , but here's a super clean truck with the wide trim, & a killer stance. Something like this, WAS what I was envisioning, when I first began shopping for a 67-72 project truck.

The 68 MERC I've ended up with will be a little different, but I guess I dig the Resto/Rod look, with all the stock (some might even say "GAUDY") trim.

Image

You said you liked the Pale Yellow? :yt:

I think this ones wheel size & style are a bit off, as is the stance...BUT, get it sitting like the brown one above (or even lower!)

I am not a fan of the pudgy trim but this truck sets just right and has the right amount of sidewall I like to see on old trucks, any lower and you need to consider some off the top to keep it in balance. Sorry young people, the big 20-22-24s disappearing into the fender don't look right to me and neither does the frame dragging stance. If you look at the true customs it was always a balance of several body mods that made the best looking cars, not just an extreme drop with the latest fad bling wheels.
And yes I might haul something in my truck, that's what it's for, that's why my roadster is a roadster pickup. If I want to go fast and handle like a sports car then that's what I will drive.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Billy - It was just the front end I got it all already, and it's at the paint shop now. I'll be posting soon next week to keep you all up to date.

Mike - I bought the bottom ranger trim on ebay a long time ago to go with the wide Ranger trim but i don't know. I kinda want to see it wide, with wide trim that goes all the way to the back. I know it will look good no matter what.
Mine will be like the yellow and white. only with the white top and 1969 chrome grill (only $350 to get it triple chromed) as for the wheels, they have to be 15's. like the brown maroon truck..
Now I have 2 projects, last week i went to Oklhoma and bought my son Ruboner a 1971 custom long bed, great body for $750. http://www.fordtrucksandparts.com/catalog5.html
We will be changing into a Sport custom short bed. (I like the idea that ford made the Sport custom for 3 years only.) He is 14 now and by the time he is 16 I think it might be ready.

What do you think of the stance on this truck, and if you don't like it you can bite it..
