problems starting in 1st....

i think it ended up being a little of everything. im sure the clutch could use atleast a cleaning....but I can't afford a new one, and really don't want to pull the tranny for that alone. IF the clutch goes out....I will replace it when I can. It shifts fine though, first to second, second to third, into reverse, its all smooth. I drove it a little this morning after putting the hose that recirculates back into the carb spacer, and then plugging another line on the carb. does fine now.

i do wonder about the vaccuum advance though....it's not hooked up. what will this do for me?

You might also check your motor mounts and tranny mounts. You could have broken springs in the clutch disk itself. These will give you chatter too.

I had the same thing on the first clutch I put on my 302. A spring on the Disk and one on the pressure plate broke. It was a reman from NAPA. I took it back and got NEW one and it was fine.

Is it the original tranny in the truck or one some previous owner pulled out of a car and stuck it there?
