Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild
Another quality 3 hours spent cleaning and blasting parts. No pics this time, nothing to brag about. Oil pan and pulleys are ready for paint. Man! That oil pan was cruddy. Came off of my donor engine. Spent an hour with a wire brush on my drill and degreaser and then another 45 mins and 30# of media blasting it. I'm not even using it other than to take to the builder for testing my engine. I'll be buying a new one when I get it. Going to paint the old one silver so I can see how it looks on the Ford blue block. If I like it, I'll get a new one and paint it the same color. Pulleys are going to be gloss black. Gotta an errand to run and when I get back I'll start the rebuild on my Edelbrock carb. Wife's gone...wonder if I could get away with bringing it in and using the dining room table? Better not.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild
Ahhhh, the single life! Lucky you, Larry.
You got off easy, David. My wife wouldn't have broke a window, she'd have made sure she hit me in the head.
Elgemcdlf, man, however do you walk with those things? That took big ones!
I decided to stick to the man cave where such things belong. OMG! What have I done?! I have COMPLETELY disassembled my carb. It's my first 4bbl rebuild. I ain't never in my life seen so many itty bitty screws and parts. Took about and hour and a half cause I took lots of pictures. I might, just might, have a question or two in the near future. Like....where the *&^%)@# did this go? All in all, the carb body looks to be in good shape and had no trash or carbon buildup anywhere. The float tanks had a fine rust colored, dusty coating on the bottom, bone dry, but the floats themselves appeared to be in sound condition. I'll be buying new ones anyway. Looks like the first time it's ever been cracked open, all screw heads were untouched. I don't think it saw much action. Next payday I'll get my kit ordered and soak the body and cover for a couple of days in Chem Dip then start putting it back together.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild
You know how things always look so cool and work so great when you see 'em on the internet and when you do it yourself it never quite works right? I'll admit I was skeptical when I read about this home made soda blaster http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-t ... a_blaster/ Then I got a HF e-sale message and this "duster" gun was on sale for $1.99 so I thought "what the heck, I'll give it shot". One week and $7 (incl s&h) I had my hands on it, went and bought a fitting, some tubing, and a couple of boxes of Arm & Hammer and made me one. I had soaked my carb for a few days in Gunk Carb Cleaner and washed it off real good and it had dried for about a week. I hooked up the soda blaster and, I'll have to say, it worked pretty darn good. Waiting on my new jets and springs and I can put her back together!

Thanks, Larry! Here's the gun that popped up on sale and triggered my memory on that soda blaster http://www.harborfreight.com/4-air-blow-gun-68259.html Yeah, my "Carterbrock" was free too so I guess we're both cheap a$$es I thought I was going to have paint the carb or something but since it came out so good, I think I'll just leave it.

The Eldebrock looks real nice, and I've always loved my electric choke (for us older/lazy types) that sometimes are forgetful?
Love the hardware kit also, gonna be sharp!

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild
Thanks Jeff. I just hope it works! Since I tossed all the old bolts I figured I'd just go down to local hardware store and buy new ones except, I didn't think to keep the old ones for sizing! I priced kits through Summit and Jegs and they were all over $100. Then I stumbled across the AlloyBoltz website and heard the "hallelujah chorus".
