? on putting a new clutch in a T18

My 1970 Ford F250 has 124000 miles on it and when you let of the clutch to go it jerks real bad. I'm thinking of putting a heavy duty clutch in it What all do you think I should Go ahead and replace while I have the transmission out?

It jerks once really hard?

If the engine is out and you got the extra cash, go for it.

If it is jerking numerous times on the release then you should surface the flywheel. Most place you get a clutch from require you to resurface if you want the warrantee.

Don't forget the pilot bushing (a needle bearing is better, but much more expensive) for the crankshaft, and a new throwout bearing as well. The bushing and throwout bearing usually come in a clutch kit.

Make sure it's squeaky clean in there, and inspect the rear main seal behind the crank flange while you're at it. Also inspect the tranny input shaft for slop/free play, and examine all your clutch linkage for wear and tear. All the parts to fix this stuff is still available, including the clutch rod from the pedal and the equalizer bar/bushings.

120,000+ miles isn't THAT bad, but it IS 30+ years old.

You might also throw in a new seal on your T-18's input shaft. Here's a photo.

replace pilot bearing/or brass bushing, the fly wheel if cracked replace at lest re surface the old fly wheel and remember a grind is better than turning if there is hot spots. also check the ring gear. replace clutch disk/ and pressure plate, along with the though out bearing for sure. and check the front bearing in the trans and also the front bearing retainer needs to be checked for wear. ( that what the though out bearing rides on) if you see a grove or flat spot than you replace it or use a speedy sleave.
