Epoxy primer is a 2 part primer. It does a very good job of sealing the metal. It is used when you take a piece down to bare metal. Sometimes you end up with some moisture still on the piece of metal which can over time rust out under the paint.

Epoxy primer seals the metal so that no air/moisture can get under the paint, and any moisture, rust under the paint will be sealed and supposedly stopped.

That's how I have understood it to work. It is rather exspensive and is a 2 part primer.

Its a better option that self etching, i know this much. It sticks to metal a whole lot better. You get your piece to bare metal then spray it with epoxy primer. you do your body work over the epoxy primer and then spray your urethane primer/sealer.

I'm a firm believer in epoxy primer over bare metal.
