1/2" vs. 9/16" wheel studs

Post by SixManCab »

I bought a set of Ford aluminum 8 hole rims from an '02 F-250/E-250. I put them on the truck, and it looks like the truck they came off of had 9/16" studs. My '69 F-250 has 1/2" studs. The bolt pattern is the same, but when I use the stock 1/2" nuts, they "sink" in the holes on the new rims. Is there a different lug nut I can use with a deeper/broader taper? If not, can I replace my 1/2" studs on my drums with 9/16"?

there is a lug nut that works i believe. the mazda guys use it when they throw on the navigator wheels. its got a ford head or something on it or another. its the only lug that works for them, it may be the same case for this. I can try and find out which lug nuts they are if u want, Im not sure if they are 1/2 inch or what but i can ask around. they are called like acorn nuts or something. but i will try to find more info on them.

they are called acorn nuts.

thats what im told. i thought there was a more specific kind, but i guess thats it. what it is, is it has the regular nut, then a taper that fits down past your outer wheel area, dont into the mounting ring when u mount it, taking up that extra tiny bit of space and securing the wheel.
