frame widths?

Post by zakt »

I believe the frame width for 67-7? is 34" what is the start year for the wider frame 78? and did they change it again in 80'. Does it differ 2wd vrs 4wd? Are some wide in front narrow in back etc..etc.. Anyone have all the measurements for the years?

Thanx,
Todd

- '67-'72 2WD/4WD all narrow (don't know how far back that goes, 34" wide was an SAE standard for all trucks back then)
- '73-'79 all 2WD narrow front, wide rear
- '73-'79 F100 4WD narrow front, wide rear
- '73-'77.5 F250 4WD all narrow
- '77.5-'79 F250 4WD narrow front, wide rear

After '79 I have no idea.

I'll try to expand on those later years:

34" Frame
All Ford trucks pre-1973 back to 48 (don’t know about the earlier ones)
73-78 Super Camper Special
73-78 Crew Cab 2wd & 4wd
73-77.5 F250 4wd
73-78 F350 single wheel
73-late 80s F350 2wd & 4wd Cab and Chassis Dually

37.5" Frame
73-98 F100/F150 2wd & 4wd pickups
74-79 Supercab
78-96 Bronco
73-98 F250 2wd (Crew Cab 78ish-98
77.5-98 F250 4wd (Crew Cab 78ish-98
78ish-98 F350 2wd except Cab and Chassis Dually
79-98 F350 4wd except Cab and Chassis Dually

which reminds me, have heard you can put a SCS rear tank in our pickups, can anyone confirm?

"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."

It'll take a little work, but yes, they're narrow enough to fit. I have a few pics at the following link of the highboy tank I have, sitting on my frame. I'm pretty sure it's the same tank the Super Camper Specials used. It'll require moving at least one crossmember.

Look down at the bottom of this page:
