Clutch info/help needed.
I posted this earlier, but it disappeared, site problems??
Anyway, I have my FE block put into the front of my 68 F100 4x4, but I'm having issues with my clutch linkage. I took out a 302 and one end of the clutch linkage/bracket bolts to the frame, and the other fit onto a "knob" on the block. The FE has no such place for the linkage, so I can't use it.
I need to know if anyone has pictures of what the stock linkage looks like to figure out what I need to get. The FE block is a 64, not sure if their is a difference between blocks/mounts outside of the motor mounts. Any info would be greatly appreciated, as I need to start tracking down the right components to finish the install.

Ok, here we go.hutch1973 wrote:The FE block is a 64, not sure if their is a difference between blocks/mounts outside of the motor mounts.
Same block I have in my truck, but I am pretty sure that all the FE's (352 and higher) had this provision. I'm not 100% positive, but pretty sure that the FE bracket and z-bar (equalizer bar) are different than the small block pieces, and the attaching linkage is probably different too (the part that goes up to the clutch pedal) Research in the aftermarket parts catalogs or original master parts catalogs will tell you for sure, if noone elses know for sure.
You can see in the pic below the unpainted bracket on the block in my truck. For what it's worth, I was able to get ALL of those parts NEW from the aftermarket a couple years ago, all EXCEPT for the brackets that bolt to the block and frame. Bushings, felt washers, z-bar, and clutch pedal pushrod, all new (for about $50-$60 I think)

Oh yeah, I'ld be curious to see what you did for motor mounts on that `64 block...

re: Clutch info/help needed.
Thanks for the info 390nut. As far as motor mounts, I used what was on the block, and once I got the right stands, they bolted right up. I did a forum search when I was about to put the motor in and saw that you had issues with the 2 bolt mounts, but my engine (pulled from a 70 2wd) has a factory 2 bolt/offset mount that works perfectly. If you're interested I can take a pic of it tomorrow. I have no idea what it originally came off of, but it stopped me from having to do the work with the plates.

re: Clutch info/help needed.
I WOULD be interested in seeing that. Unless the mount towers were moved backwards with new holes drilled in the frame, I don't see how it would work. I also couldn't find any mount towers that looked like they would work properly.
I researched that quite a bit, and never found a "simple" solution.

re: Clutch info/help needed.
I'm using factory towers out of an F250 (Thanks 460crew) on the back set of mounting bolts. My measurement from the back of the block to motor mount drop bolt is about 14.5". When I had the initial issues with fit (before discovering my stands were hacked up junk) I noticed none of the motor mount listings for my truck matched what was already on the block. Thought that it was my problem until coming across your thread then figured I accidentally had the right set.
Do you remember what companies you went through for your linkage?

re: Clutch info/help needed.
Here are the motor mounts installed. They are strictly a two bolt mount but the rubber pad looks to be the same size as the four bolt. The bolt holes were all factory on the frame for the stands, the grinding that may show up in the pics is from cutting/grinding off the old stands the guy had welded in. I'm going to por the frame when I have the front clip off in a month or so.

Here is a pic of the linkage that I found in my storage if you want it.

Looks right to me, shoot me a price/shipping, know your paypal from yesterday. I should think of what other parts I'm going to need from you so save on the multiple ships

re: Clutch info/help needed.
Brain fart (been getting those a LOT these days, I must be getting old )
You've got a 4x4, which uses totaly different frame mounts. No crossmember for the frame mounts to bolt to, as in the 2wd trucks.
Are those standard 4x4 mounts bolted to the block? Those might just be the ticket to making this older block fit properly in my truck. I thought I had gone through this once before, but maybe I missed this particular mount.
Cool pics, thanks!
As for the linkage parts, I believe it was AutoKrafters: You'll need Adobe Reader, then scroll down to page 10 (Brake/Clutch parts, page 79 in the print catalog)

re: Clutch info/help needed.
I know the mounts are different, but the location (in reference to the trans) is the same distance lengthwise, isn't it?
I have no idea what the motor mounts are off of. They were on the motor when I got it, but the donor vehicle was a 70 2wd, with factory stands, and it bolted right in.
