NP435 PROBLEMS
I have the NP435 mated to the Dana 21 transfer case in my 71' F100 4x4 and when I go through water or drive in snow the clutch slips. I have a new centerforce dual friction clutch and flywheel in it and it has the flywheel inspection cover protecting it from the elements. What could be the problem? It only seems to happen in snow and water .I would rather fix this problem than go thriough the hassles of swapping transmissions. I have been looking into it but I do not want to lose my stick tranny .All help welcomed.Thanks.

re: NP435 PROBLEMS
Stay out of the water and snow.
Its not the transmission that slips. It is the pressure plate that is suposed to be holding the disk down to the flywheel. Did you re-surface the flywheel before installing the center force? If so, Its either out of adjustment or the pressure plate is bad or wrong.

i agree with Greg, also when you get water into your clutch it causes it to 'slip' because there is not enough friction to make it work.. thats why alot of mudboggers use automatics. either stay out of deep water or get a befeir clutch plate and hope for the best. also make sure you don't get and dirt or sand grains into it either-that will eat a clutch alive.

re: NP435 PROBLEMS
Well seeing how I see alot of mud, snow and water maybe I should go to a c6/np205 combo...as before do they make a c6/np205 that bolts behind the FE engines?? I was told that only stick trannies were used behind the FE's in the 4x4's. Can someone clear this up? I would like to know so I can look for a c6/np205 that will bolt up behind my Fe. Thanks

I believe I have seen C6/transfer cases on craigslist. might be a newer year, but I believe they were made.
I would venture a guess that is an adjustment problem, as long as the cluch is installed correctly.
A lot of mudbogging is not having to shift when the engine starts to strain against the mud, hence the auto trannies. I thought Centerforce was the best clutch set-up out there (at least for the working man)? Can't get much beefier than that, anyways!19674x4 wrote:thats why alot of mudboggers use automatics. either stay out of deep water or get a befeir clutch plate and hope for the best. .

re: NP435 PROBLEMS
I have heard a few bad things about centerforce. One of them is they can be to much of a clutch for USED street/race/4x4 everyday use. They are made more for new/professionally build stuff.
The Toyota people have alot of problems with them because the have so much force they make push the crank and wear the bearings out faster.
460 crew has a 460/C6 combo in his rig. I am sure you can do the same with the FE.

re: NP435 PROBLEMS
you might want to look for mid-70's trucks with a 360fe/c6-205
I know I have seen a 1976 f150 with that combo.......
