I am going to swap in a d-60 in place of my worn out 9'' rear end. What is required to complete this swat sucessfully. I was concerned about the leaf spring setup and brake lines and will this lower or higher the back of my truck . It's a 72 f-100 And the rear is from a 69 ....THANKS

Are you sure you want to put an 8-lug rearend on the back of your truck....or did you happen to locate a rare 5-lug Dana 60?

I friend of mine and I did that swap to a truck of his some years back, but his was a '65 so I don't know if that'll make a difference. It was a bolt in swap with the stock springs and the u-bolts and shackles from the donor truck except we had to have the drive line shortened.

Oops, I don't mean shackles, I meant the mounts that go under the axle that the u-bolts go through.

Hopefully you are looking at a Dana 60 and not the Dana 61 thats found in a lot if not all 67-72 F250's. There is a difference and the parts are not interchangable. Plus, sometimes you can score a 9in center for not too much. Then all you would have to worry about are the axel bearings behind the brake backing plate. A 9in. can be built up to almost equal a D60, especially if the vehicle is light on the rear resulting in wheel spin. For really heavy duty stuff, a D60 might be better.

Roger That.....You make a good point but I just love the chrome differential cover look I'll just save it and add it to my parts collection. Thanks for the advice I just love jumping into stuff besides my truck is my last line of transportation, do to mpg of course.
