Door Disassembly

Post by jor »

Keith,
EXCELLENT tutorial on how to completeley disasseble a door (http://www.fordification.com/doors01.htm). I try to take as many photos as I can as I do different jobs but I find, in many cases, not having a third hand really limits some of the shots. Have you got a helper? Anyhow, thanks for your work on a great tutorial.

Thanks John. No, it's just me by myself....and yeah, it does tend to affect some shots, due to a lack of extra hands, but works out for the most part.

Yeah thanks Keith. Really helped start me in the right direction.
That was an excellent tutorial.
I want to emphasis that safety is important and tape up those inside edges of the doors. They are Sharp!!! 3 stiches later......

Good idea....I just added a little blurb to that page in the appropriate spot about taking some precautions when sticking your arm in the access hole. :D

Yes, great tutorial Keith. I tore into my doors last weekend and replaced all of the antirattle rubber and weather strip, removed and cleaned the latches thoroughly, removed and cleaned the vent window assemblies thoroughly. My window weather strip was petrified. I had to chisel it out with a screw driver. Only thing left now is to replace the window lift chanels and reassemble.

How do you go about putting in a new window glass into the channel?
And what is the procedure for replacing the gasket on the vent window?
How do you press the glass in completely when using a new gasket? I just bought a new wing vent assy. on ebay and I have a feeling it is going to be the tinted glass. If I need to use my orig glass, I will need to change it over, ie., new gasket. Anyone got experience with this?
