C6 tranny question

The c6 tranny in my 69 f250 makes a grinding noise when I put it into park could it be because the tranny is still rotating?

I do know there is a rod called the "parking pawl" that might come into play here, (but by far no tranny guy just owned a few C-6 in my lifetime).

Hoping someone else can chime in here that knows our "slushboxes" a little better!
