Hi all,
I replaced the distributor with an identical reproduction. I set the timing to TDC on the crank case. I pulled the distributor and made sure the rotor faced the #1 cylinder wire (also tried it facing #6 cylinder wire). I am not sure where the distributor point should actually be before I start it up.
I thought the engine would at least start so I can use A timing light to adjust further, or adjust the distributor.
Anyone, swap the distributor and have the same issue?
this is for 66 ford f100 300 CID I6

Pull the #1 plug
Put a finger in the hole and turn the engine over .
when you feel pressure stop on TDC mark then the rotor should be at #1 plug wire.
The crank turns twice for one turn of distributor , so even if you're at TDC you could be 180 degrees off.
did you check for spark , just because it's new doesn't mean it works.

ok, thanks. Also, I read that the timing marks on the driver side of the crank case might not be correct - is that true?

Maybe a stupid question - but how do I check for that the distributor and coil are working correctly and have spark?

Yes that is true. Some of the I6's have 2 timing marks, I don't know exact years.bitt01 wrote:ok, thanks. Also, I read that the timing marks on the driver side of the crank case might not be correct - is that true?
