302 cam/distributor swap question

Post by DougDA »

I'm planning to upgrade my cam and distributor in my '70 302.

I'm using a mid 80's 302HO cam and want to use an electronic distributor that is close to stock - meaning....something i can readily gets parts for locally if needed vs. buying a 3rd party distributor with harder to find replacement parts....

I have read just enough about differences in cam gears, and firing order, etc. so that i'm not sure which distributor would be a good swap. I"m assuming the stock mid 80's distro has a different plug in configuration ?

please advise

You can always swap to a Ford Duraspark ignition for the '85 5.0 Mustang. The 80's distributor will drop right in and you'd be sure it'd match your cam. It's a Ford, it wants a Ford ignition.
