Transmission Durability

Post by CamperSpecialCruiser »

I have the NP435 transmission in my 68 Camper Special and I would like to know if it would hold up to a 427 with 500 horses. I don't want to wreck the tranny if it is too much. Anybody else have that much power on that tranny? :hmm:

my question is why are you putting in a 427? Isn't that a Ch*vy engine?!?

and I wouldn't try any first gear burnouts if I were you! you'll twist the driveshaft into a pretzel, or worse!
In life many men take the path of righteousness, some take the path many others follow (G.M. owners, for example), some take a more arduous path, some a simpler path. I, sir, took the PSYCO-PATH!!

Its a modified Ford engine called the Poor Mans 427. Do a search on that.

Wanna trade for a 1.8 Subaru engine? Think of the gas you will be saving. :D

Tranny won't break. U-joint's you'll have to keep an eye on.
You probably got 18spline axles in that Dana. Watch that too.

I've got a 1020cc engine that would be even better. Winds up to about 11 grand, too.

Doubt it would do it very quickly in a two ton vehicle, though :P

I have a one tonne with a NP435, I can't see you wrecking one of these transmissions at all. I have seen my uncle do races with a one tonne with a built 390 (with around 475hp) fully loaded deck & high hab, with both duals smoking off street lights with no damage to the NP trans, but the drive shaft thats a deferent story.
WHAT ?
