That's a tricky question. :hmm:

A lot depends on what your D D is , how you drive it and what engine and trans you have.

Plus tire size and gearing is important too.

Need to know more. Engine size, manifolds or headers, carburetor and whether you plan to change it, manual or automatic, stock or performance converter and rear gear ratio. Condition of the engine is also a factor.

the engine is a 360 fe also has exahaust manifolds because my truck in a camper special i can't change them, i plan to change it to 4 barrel fuel injection, it's a automatic c6 and stock converter, the gear ratio is 373 and 16in tires and the engine is being rebuilt at the moment

This is just opinion, if it were me, given the information we have so far, i would re allocate money into different categories. you have a 360 that's being rebuilt, and your keeping the stock manifolds. your money would be better spent on making that engine a 390 with good matching cam for your usage, instead of putting fuel injection on a 360 with manifolds. :2cents: maybe some more insight on your intended driving conditions, its this a daily driver, tow rig, weekend warrior?

Okie dokie, so for this kind of work your most likely looking for something that just runs good and fairly smooth but budget minded? I see your around 4 thousand feet elevation. If your planning on doing stock 390 internals, I would ask the machinist for his recommendation for a "RV' type cam. nothing crazy, but something to help it breathe just a little better. Pop a good running 2bbl on it and tune everything in and you would prob be happy with that. If you wanted to get a little extra something the Holley 500 cfm 2bbl is fully tune-able which is good for setting up with elevation and gives you noticeable power with excellent drivability.

Crane 343901 and 343941 are two popular mild cams. (assuming you can still get them now that Comp owns Crane :( ) Changing the last digit to 2 should get you a kit with lifters and lube.

Careful with compression if go 390 and it is a work truck...

I am a huge Lunati camshaft fan. They are the one manufacturer that I have never experienced any problems with. For your build, I would suggest part number 10331003, which is the Factory Performance grind for the Ford FE series engines. This is Lunati’s version of the 428SCJ cam. You should be able to get by with factory valve springs set around 90 pounds of seat pressure.

If you are looking to get rid of the extra weight of the cast iron intake in favor of an aluminum one, any dual plane would be fine. A well tuned 600-650 cfm would do fine, but you did mention a four barrel fuel injection unit. If you are planning on the FiTech, don’t waist your time. I know several folks running them and only one of them says he’s satisfied...but he is so stubborn, he won’t admit that his car runs like crap and is actually slower at the strip.

With that Lunati cam, you’ll be fine with the stock converter and up to your desired 3.73:1 gears. It should yield plenty of vacuum for power brakes as well. Make sure your final compression ratio is close to 9:1. Good luck.
