strange carb set up. 1971 F100 AOD

Post by BayStYAt »

So I just realized I have a 2 barrel carb from a 390 on a 302. Could running this cause any issues? I am looking to just replace the carb all together with a 2100 for a 302. Seems to run rich.

thanks

I ran the Motorcraft 2150, (best carb ever made as far as I'm concerned) from my 360 for a few years on my "little 302" (as some folks here call them) with no issues. Yeah it'll run rich but just go get the rebuild kit for the Motorcraft 2150 302 that has the smaller jet in it and call it a day.
Simplest / most dependable;e / easy to rebuild carb to date.

It won't run rich because the carb is designed to flow the correct amount of fuel for the CFM it's capable of. You just have a carb capable of flowing a larger amount of air. I run a 390 2100 on my 289 and it runs fine. Exhaust smells clean.

Thanks, It seems to have a lot of oil around the base and dripping onto the intake. What will cause oil to come from the carb?

How do I identify my carb? I can't find a model number.

the choke looks like jaws got a hold of it and the choke pull off is broken off completely. I only have 3 vacuum lines connected.

It is supposed to have a metal tag on one of the bowl screws.

Look on the sides for something like 1.08 or 1.12...

AOD? As in Automatic OverDrive transmission?

Not having the vacuum advance hooked up on the distributor will. What does the rest of the engine look like?

If I had to venture a guess I'd say a sick engine. Excessive blowby will work it's way up the fresh air intake for the PCV and foul that area. Of course a non working PCV system will too.

Pics of everything will help identify problem areas. No vacuum advance will limit drivability causing sluggish performance. Timing doesn't follow the load on the engine, only the RPM.

Will a 2150 carb work on a engine that is 2100 carb pre smog with out electric choke?

The only replacement I can find is the 2150 at a good price.
