fuel tank sender

Post by 67 short box »

I had to buy a new in cab fuel tank from lmc and used what appears to be the original sender. new float and gasket, but it leaks around the gasket and the float hits the side of the tank constantly and that's annoying. I retightened the sender screws but still seeping. im wondering if a new sender would help. maybe the original sender not liking the newer probably china gas tank. my dad bought a new 67 and I don't remember this problem with it. this sender sat in old gas for 20 plus years, cant believe it even worked but it does....thanks

If I remember right, I think you can bend the rod that goes to the float so it doesn't rub the inside of the tank. As for the leaky gasket, I'd get a tube of gasket material from a parts store and coat both sides of the gasket with it.

I used non-hardening Permatex to seal the screws/sender in my cab.

I bought a new sender from LMC for my 71 long bed, in frame gas tank. It works but its not accurate at all. Reads 3/4 when tank is full and empty when tank still has about 8 gallons. I think the float arm could probably be bent and tweeked to get it to read correct but it means pulling the rock guard and tank back out to do it.
