FE Throttle Linkage

Post by urchinhead »

A few years back, I found some info on this site about using factory parts to eliminate the bellcrank and rod assembly that was stock on my 1970 with 360 FE/Autolite 2100.

My recent search of the forum turned up no results, and I can always resort to Lokar parts, but I believe that using a late ‘70s pickup pedal and arm (which I have) with a specific cable assembly could get me there. My motor is now a 390 with C1AE Galaxie intake and a Holley C9AF-9510-U carburetor. Any ideas?

Well, it's not stock, but I used all-thread and Heim joints on my Edelbrock carburetor. Since the Eddy wasn't stock, I wasn't too concerned about the linkage not being stock. I was quite happy to get rid of the Ford monstrosity.

I've done the same thing but I can tell you the pedal feel isn't the same. It's too sensitive.

It looks like I need the bracket and cable from a donor truck, and I should be in business, and can use the ball stud on the Holley carburetor.

Busboy - I suppose that I could install a stronger return spring if it’s too sensitive. I have been driving this truck with a Hillbilly welded up rod to an Edelbrock carb, which has been ok.

It's not the spring tension, it's the leverage. It's harder to feather the throttle, for me anyway.

I found one of the offset factory rods on eBay, so I will give that a shot and keep you guys posted.

It seems the cable throttles were for the small block trucks.

I found one from a wrecker, but when it shows up, I might want a prettier one after the mock-up, and will let you know. Thank you!
