replacing aux tank fuel line help

Post by sharkdog »

haven't used my truck much over the last few years but ready to get back to working on it and putting it on the road. Anyway after firing it up the other day I realized that it was spitting something out under the cab which led to me finding the fuel line from my side mount aux tank to the diverter valve under the cab was leaking and ultimately rotten. I am obviously going to have to replace it just wondering how hard it is to replace? I don't really have the ability to remove the bed so am hopefully that isn't necessary. Also is there any special hosing or is it just standard rubber fuel hose?. Any info or helpful tips would be appreciated.

Thanks Pete

First, you won't have to remove the bed. If you need to remove the aux tank, it's held in place by two metal straps. I think the rubber line is on the frame side, so I don't think you'll need to remove the tank.

Second, you can get flexible fuel line at your local AutoZone, etc. I don't remember what size you need, so if you can, bring in the old line. It's probably a couple of bucks a foot (they sell it by the foot). I always get too much, because it's better to have too much than not enough. And get new hose clamps; they're cheap, and this is gas.
